Fontana Library Photofields

This installation features 12 custom-made Photofields. Artist Michael Barnard (U.S.A.) creates his unique Photofield works by accessing a large library he has amassed over years of travel around the world. In addition, images of the Fontana area (and other subjects) were specifically taken for this project over the course of several months in 2007.

It is the artist's hope that these Photofields act as portals to lesser-noticed aspects of the local Fontana landscape, as well as to the wider world. Libraries throughout history and around the world have served as archives of human endeavor and knowledge. It is Barnard's hope that these artworks serve to inspire and encourage curiosity and exploration of the amazing world we live in.

In a process developed and perfected over years of experimentation, each of these custom Photofields is printed with fade-resistant pigment inks, mounted on aluminum, and coated with a special UV protective film.
