Michael  W. Barnard has been making films, artworks, and music for over thirty years. He has published poetry, essays and other writings in a variety of books and journals including most recently an essay in the  McGraw-Hill book “Wisdom of the East-Stories of Compassion, Inspiration and Love” He is currently producing and directing several different productions, including a long-term high-defintion video documentary on the design and building of the I.M. Pei-designed new hospital being built at UCLA, as well as an independent feature (“90404 Changing!”) chronicling the history of a Santa Monica neighborhood.

 Michael W. Barnard, born in Hollywood, California, grew up in Massachusetts and the San Francisco Bay Area. He began his career in art and film during his teenage years and received a BFA from the California College of Arts and Crafts, Oakland (1967), and an MFA from Ft. Wright College in Spokane, Washington (1969), where he taught as a painting and drawing Instructor. His works are included in numerous private collections nationwide. He most  recently had one-man shows  at the Artspace Gallery, Santa Monica - 2001, Platform 9, Santa Monica in January 2002,  the Highways Gallery in Santa Monica in February 2002 , and at the  University of Nevada, Las Vegas in the Fall of 2003. 

 His film works include a series of experimental "FieldFilms" in the 1960's  and early 70's,(shown at Millenium in New York and many other experimental film venues around the U.S.),  a series of educational films for an international non-profit organization during the 70's, and since coming to Los Angeles in 1978, a wide variety of films ranging from the Greenpeace documentary film "Voyage of the Peacock" , to the features "Nights In White Satin" (Director), “Against The Wind” (Writer), "The Invisible Kid" (Director of Photography), and "Cries of Silence" (Co-Producer/Director of Photography) “, and award-winning feature length documentary “Chihuly River of Glass” (Producer/Director/DP/Editor). He has made  numerous films in many parts if the world.

 He occasionally gives public performances of his original guitar music and released a CD ("9 Rainbow Field") in 1998.  He is surrently at work on a new CD (“FieldMusic”) which he plans to release in 2004.

 Lightning Bolt PIX:  has been in existence since 1979 and produces features, commercials, documentaries, music videos, corporate films as well as Title/FX/Graphics sequences.
